Who determines which behaviour should be experienced as sane or insane? We often tend to reject dissenters or classify them as mentally ill. 07-07-2009: ‘Working on a dream’
As with ‘Operation Medal’, the campaign behind the victory of German weightlifter Matthias Steiner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the German weightlifting coach Frank Mantek is once again focusing on addressing the emotional side of his leading athletes in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.  Behind the new campaign – ‘Working on a dream. London 2012. We’re going to win!’ – is the clear goal of the squad’s winning two Olympic medals in London. Apart from Matthias Steiner the squad consists of European Champion, Jürgen Spieß, and the European runner-up, Almir Velagic. For the last three years, the Reiss Profile has been a core element of Mantek’s training programme. Here, the German coach is working closely in conjunction with Reiss Profile Chief Instructor, Peter Boltersdorf. Their chief aim is to establish how training and competition preparation can be tailored to the individual personality. Only in this way can an athlete’s emotions be engaged to the full, which ultimately creates the right conditions for producing high-class performances. Three years before the London games, Boltersdorf, Mantek, Steiner & co are already caught up in Olympic fever.
